In my work with financial services organisations, on question keeps coming up in reflections and client discussions: “How do we design an operating model that allows us to move faster without becoming less safe?”
This question encapsulates many themes I have seen matter most in practice:
Bridging strategy to execution across all levels, not just at the executive level
Designing operating models with clear and durable accountability
Creating learning, adaptive systems that withstand regulatory scrutiny, rather than temporary pilot programs that fade once attention shifts
Taken together, these themes shape my broader reflection on what I’ve learned, what I’ve seen work, and what I believe matters most in financial services when complexity, challenge and change collide.
In a highly regulated environment, you can achieve delivery that is both faster and safer. I have designed and embedded an enterprise operating model that doubled the volume of change while maintaining regulatory and FAR obligations.
This was not a pilot or a framework adoption.
It was a sustained, regulator-facing transformation that required structural, cultural and leadership shifts to make change stick.
The key shifts that made the biggest difference were these:

Key highlights of the work I have done in the sector include:
Designing an E2E operating models spanning product, process, technology and risk, dissolving traditional IT vs Business boundaries while preserving clear FAR-aligned accountability and ownership.
Redesigning governance and controls to support quarterly enterprise prioritisation across all work types (regulatory, change, BAU) enabling flow without compromising control.
Establishing leadership roles, accountabilities and decision forums that stood up to regulatory scrutiny, reinforcing accountability rather than diffusing it.
Seeing the shift beyond agile fundamentals to embed a systemic mindset change across executives, leaders and teams, ultimately making the change sustainable.
Key learnings, as shown below, are as relevant to other industries as the financial services sector:
